Newsteer advised Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust on the delivery of Highgate East, a new 69-bed inpatient mental health facility at the Whittington Hospital campus.
The client’s challenge
The Trust needed to secure consent for a major new healthcare facility on a highly constrained live hospital campus, immediately adjacent to a Grade II listed building and sensitive neighbouring uses.

Newsteer led the planning strategy and pre-application process, coordinating engagement with the Design Review Panel, councillors, officers, neighbours and the wider design team.

Outcomes and impact
Full planning permission was secured in 2021. The completed building went on to win the Healthcare category at the NLA New London Awards 2024.
