James Dewey is Head of CPO at Newsteer, helping acquiring authorities and landowners navigate compulsory purchase, land assembly and compensation on major infrastructure, regeneration and development schemes. He advises from early strategy through to securing and implementing powers, giving clients a clear view of property interests, compensation exposure and the route to delivery.
His experience includes nationally significant projects such as Heathrow runway expansion and HS2, where land, statutory process, compensation and programme need to be carefully coordinated. James prepares robust compensation estimates, supports financial planning and shapes acquisition and negotiation strategies around the commercial realities of each scheme.
Working closely with clients, legal advisers and wider project teams, James combines CPO strategy, property evidence and negotiation to create greater delivery certainty. His focus is on securing land by agreement wherever possible, while ensuring clients are prepared to use statutory powers effectively when needed.
