Henrietta Valia-Kollery has spent the last 3 months interning in our Regeneration and CPO team. By her own admission, it has been a steep learning curve, but equally invaluable in terms of the hands-on experience, and helping her decide to do her Masters and pursue a career in real estate! We posed a few quick fire questions for Henrietta to see how she’s found her time with Newsteer!

What has been your favourite part of your role?

I think even though my time here has been relatively short, it’s been really exciting to see projects progress that you know will make a real difference to communities for many years to come.

What’s the team like …really?

I honestly couldn’t have hoped to gain this experience with a lovelier team! They have been incredibly welcoming, supportive and keen to encourage me to take things on, to ask lots of questions and hit the ground running, and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know them. The wider team, and other departments, have been just as great. People have been so generous with their time and advice, and I think it’s their investment in the people side of things, as well as the work, that truly shines through.

What’s the most unusual thing you have done while at Newsteer?

I would say attending a public inquiry, and seeing the legal workings of the projects, which is something I would never normally have the opportunity to be privy to.

What’s the best piece of professional advice you’ve ever received?

Over the years, a number of people I respect have advised me never to be afraid to make the first move when seeking guidance – that people are usually far happier to provide input than we are often inclined to imagine!
