Newsteer advised the London Borough of Hounslow and Ecoworld on compensation payable to a neighbouring block of flats authorised by section 203 of the Housing and Planning Act 2016, providing valuation advice and expert evidence in the context of a reference to the Upper Tribunal.

The client’s challenge

The client needed to establish the appropriate level of compensation payable under s.204 of the Housing and Planning Act 2016 for rights to light injuries to a neighbouring block of flats following the appropriation of the development site, with the matter referred to the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) for determination.

Our solution

Newsteer provided specialist advice on the compensation payable under Section 204, including expert evidence to support the client’s position in advance of an Upper Tribunal hearing.

Beyond advice: how we added value

Our role combines technical valuation expertise and compensation advice within the statutory framework including the preparation of expert evidence.

Outcomes and impact

Newsteer’s advice supported the client in assessing and addressing their compensation liability. Settlement was reached in advance of the tribunal hearing avoiding additional cost and risk.
