Joe is embarking on an exciting one-year work placement with the Planning team at Newsteer, where he is gaining hands-on experience in the field of urban planning.
The placement year is part of his BA course in Geography at Northumbria University. His fascination with the built environment, structures, and the intricate process of shaping cities and landscapes has been a driving force in his academic and professional journey so far. At Newsteer, a significant part of his responsibilities has centred around conducting research to familiarise himself with the essentials of urban planning.
Supported by the Planning team, Joe has a clear pathway for his professional growth, starting with basic research and progressing to more complex projects. He now contributes to writing planning appraisals and statements.
Highlights
- A standout project was a planning audit for a site in Kent. Although the initial stages were challenging due to his limited understanding of the concepts and terminology, Joe persevered and turned it into a valuable learning experience.
