Newsteer donates Winter Warmth Packs to support those in fuel poverty this Christmas

Over the last 3 years, in lieu of sending printed Christmas cards, we have made a donation to a  charity. This year, with the cost of living and energy crisis affecting many across the UK, we are donating 34 winter warmth packs (one for every member of the company) via National Energy Action.

The energy crisis has plunged millions more households into fuel poverty, forcing them to make impossible decisions between heating and eating. No one should have to live like this. National Energy Action supports thousands of vulnerable households in crisis situations. This year, even after taking steps to manage energy use and claim available support, some people still won’t be able to put their heating on. The Winter Warmth Support Packs are for the NEA’s most vulnerable and at-risk clients.

Each pack contains small, household energy efficiency items that can be used to help stay a little warmer at home during the cold winter months. A Winter Warmth Support Pack on average costs between £50-£80 (depending on household size) to make and distribute but can make a huge difference to a home in need of essentials.

We are proud to be a business that puts the communities in which we work at the heart of everything we do.

Earlier this month members of our team volunteered at Tesco and Fareshare’s Winter Food collection. (Link to story) With donations of £6,000 this year, since Newsteer was founded in 2019, we’ve helped 23 different charities and sponsored employees to undertake a variety of activities including virtual walks, marathons, bike rides and a bake off.

Next year, Senior Planner, Gillian Cooper will continue this when she raises money for the Make Space for Girls campaign as she takes on the Copenhagen IronMan competition in August!

This charity brings together Gill’s interests and aligns closely with Newsteer’s social value goals – improving the built environment and creating spaces for girls and young women. We look forward to sharing Gill’s training and fundraising journey in 2023.

Wishing all of our clients, colleagues, friends and families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 2023 is set to be a big year for Newsteer and our neighbourhood – we look forward to sharing this with you!
